FiCreativo was asked by the art gallery TENT.Rotterdam to develop the interior design for the event “A Banquet for Wandering Ghosts” .The one night festival was aimed at exploring the interfaces between Halloween and contemporary art, through a program of performances, lectures, films, dance, readings and night walks. Based on the existing art exhibition, the design intervention for the main scenes explored the concept of a place which does not immediately reveal itself. The ghost is the spirit of the dead which surfaces as an invisible presence, translucent or barely visible wispy shape. The design aimed at exploring the users perception by introducing the performer firstly as a shape which is not immediately identified but rather stands as a homogenous presence within the space. Secondly, the contained ruptures in the fabric in order to explore different points of view towards the performer. Salt was used as a visual and tactile fence around the existing art work. It is believed that spiritual entities cannot cross a boarder of salt as it is an earthly material. The Tunnel of Terror was located in a narrow and tall space and functioning as a screening room. The concept was based on the belief that death is perceived as a universal inducer of horror and fear. The space was covered in plastic foil making a reference to the one in which murder victims are wrapped in. This intervention caused an overall sensation of panic and anxiety, in correlation to the horror movies projected. In the main entrance the team was asked to reuse a total of nine hundred black masks. In relation with colored light , these produced strong shadows creating a bizarre atmosphereIn collaboration with TENT, the team built in real scale the interior installations in the given timeframe.
